ABOUT JAMIE

Officer Jamie Shoemaker is a dedicated law enforcement professional with the Geneseo Police Department, where she has made impactful contributions to mental health, crisis intervention, and community support. She began her career in 2015 with the Rock Island County Sheriff's Office, quickly earning certification as a Phase 3 hostage negotiator while working third shift as a deputy.

In 2021, Jamie joined the Geneseo Police Department, where she became a certified Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) member and launched the IMPACT (Integrated Model Police and Crisis Team) Program. This innovative initiative provides critical resources to individuals experiencing mental illness, substance use challenges, and crises. Under her leadership, IMPACT has raised over $12,000 to support community members in need. The program has also hosted an annual first responder conference for the past three years, focusing on education and awareness of local crisis resources.

In addition to her work in Geneseo, Jamie contributes at the state level as a partner with the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board CIT program, where she helps train and mentor officers across Illinois in effective and compassionate crisis response techniques.

Beyond IMPACT, Detective Shoemaker has championed dementia-related initiatives in Geneseo. She created a Dementia Task Force in collaboration with police officers and community members, leading to the city’s recognition as a Dementia Friendly Community through Dementia Friendly America. In 2024, the task force organized the city’s first Dementia 5K, raising funds for support resources such as GPS tracking bracelets for individuals living with dementia.

Jamie is also an FBI-certified crisis negotiator, an active board member of the Illinois Crisis Negotiator Association, and a member of the Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task force. Her passion for serving both first responders and the broader community makes her a tireless advocate for mental health, crisis response, and compassionate policing.
